Recovering the Desert Giants: Paleontology Expedition 2027
Gobi Desert, Mongolia · July 8-22, 2027 · 15 days, 14 nights

Join Mongolian paleontologists in the Gobi and help excavate real dinosaur fossils. Every specimen stays in Mongolia, in the Institute of Paleontology’s national collection, and participants’ names go in the official field catalogue.

Field work
5 dig days at Base camp 1: Continue uncovering a giant sauropod pelvis from the Bayanshiree Formation. Sauropods are rare there, and only one species has ever been formally named from it.
4 dig days at Base camp 2: Finish excavating a large, unconfirmed fossil, possibly a hadrosaur (“duck-billed dinosaur”).

Your role: prospecting, excavation, jacketing, 3D imaging and GPS recording, working alongside the scientists.

Led by: Mainbayar Buuvei (Head of Paleozoology Department, Institute of Paleontology, Mongolian Academy of Sciences) and Scott Sirois (Explorers Club, Washington DC Group Board Member). Organized by Nomadify Expeditions, the official Mongolia Chapter of the Roy Chapman Andrews Society.

Included: 4-star hotel in Ulaanbaatar, twin-share bell tents in the field, all meals per itinerary, all transfers, excavation permits.
Not included: international flights, airport transfers, extra hotel nights, international travel insurance
